Issues to be noted in the design of aluminum profile cross-sections

The content of this article is compiled and published by the editorial department of China Curtain Wall Network:

  1. The formulation of tolerances should fully consider the manufacturer's manufacturing capabilities, as aluminum extrusion molds are formed under hot pressing conditions, and the product tolerances are relatively larger than those of rubber parts and hardware parts.

  2. The material thickness should not be too thin, generally above 0.8mm, with less deformation, better extrusion condition, and mass production capability.

  3. The difference in thickness of hollow tube materials should not be too large, generally not more than 4 times, otherwise the mold (the term "mold" is provided by an industry encyclopedia) will be difficult to adjust and extrude.

  4. Before officially opening the mold, a detailed surface treatment effect must be provided. The surface treatment process affects the determination of the extrusion mold clamping line in the early stage, and affects the size values of the extrusion mold and hardware stamping die (oil spraying will make the product aperture smaller, the shape larger, and the inner cavity narrower, while oxidation is the opposite; sandblasting can cause the product aperture larger, the body thinner, or cause product deformation; wire drawing process should consider leaving material allowance)

  5. Squeezing materials cannot achieve absolute sharpness. The designed sharp edged aluminum profiles will have an R-angle of about 0.3. After subsequent polishing, oxidation, oil spraying and other processes, the R-angle will reach about 0.4.

  6. The ratio of hollow and solid parts in aluminum extrusion should not be too disparate or offset too much, depending on the actual structure.
