Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of three surface treatment methods for aluminum profiles

Update Time: 2021-08-12 Times

  There are generally three surface treatment methods for aluminum profiles: anodizing, electrophoretic coating, and powder coating. Each method has its own advantages and occupies a considerable market share.

  Powder coating has the following significant advantages:

  1. The process is relatively simple, mainly due to the improvement of the automatic accuracy of the main equipment in the production process. Some of the main technical parameters can now be controlled by microcomputers, effectively reducing the difficulty of process operation, while the auxiliary equipment is greatly reduced;

  2. With a high yield rate, in general, if all measures are taken properly, the production of non-conforming products can be controlled to the maximum extent possible;

  3. The energy consumption has significantly decreased. In the production process of ordinary anodizing and electrophoretic coating, the consumption of water and electricity is quite large, especially in the oxidation process. The output current of the rectifier can reach between 8000 and 11000A, and the voltage is between 15 and 17.5V. In addition, the heat consumption of the machine itself requires continuous use of circulating water for cooling, resulting in a power consumption of about 1000 degrees per ton. At the same time, reducing auxiliary facilities can also reduce some power consumption;

  4. The pollution level of water and air has been reduced, and caustic soda, sulfuric acid, and other liquid organic solvents are no longer used, reducing water and air pollution. This also effectively improves the competitiveness of aluminum profiles and plastic steel profiles as environmentally friendly products, and correspondingly reduces some production costs;

  5. The labor intensity of 5 workers has significantly decreased. Due to the use of automated assembly line operations, the feeding method and fixture usage have been significantly simplified, improving production efficiency and reducing labor intensity;

  6. The surface quality requirements for 6 pairs of raw materials have been significantly reduced, and powder coating can completely cover the extrusion lines on the surface of the profile, masking some of the defects on the surface of the aluminum profile and improving the surface quality of the finished aluminum profile;

  7. Some physical indicators of the 7 coating film are significantly improved compared to other surface treatment films, such as hardness and wear resistance, which can effectively extend the service life of aluminum profiles.

  Powder coating is used for powder spraying, and electrostatic spraying is used in the process. By utilizing the action of a friction spray gun, under the influence of accelerated wind, the powder particles carry positive charges when sprayed out of the gun body, and come into contact with the negatively charged profile to generate electrostatic adsorption, and then undergo high-temperature solidification. It also enhances the adsorption strength of the coating, preventing the paint film from peeling off.

  From the perspective of the craftsmanship itself, it has a relatively high technological component, blending coatings of different colors to produce decorative effects in different color schemes, which is more in line with the needs of interior decoration and is also consistent with the trend of aluminum profiles being used in the construction industry towards indoor development. Especially the combination of sprayed profiles and insulated bridges makes it more fashionable and provides greater development space for powder sprayed profiles, which cannot be replaced by profiles produced by other processing methods.
